Hi There -

Get In Touch

If you’re considering a Bay Area family photo session but aren’t sure what to expect, you’re not alone.. Many families wonder how it works—especially with young kids, pets, or busy schedules. That’s why I created this guide to give you an honest sense of what a session with me is like. Whether you’re planning an in-home session, an outdoor location, or a mix of both, I want you to feel confident and at ease before we even meet.

A Session That Feels Like You

At the heart of every session is one simple goal: I want your family to feel like yourselves. Your photos should reflect the warmth, energy, and connection that are uniquely yours—not a posed version of it. That means following your lead, especially with little ones, and letting things unfold naturally. My hope is that you look back at these images years from now and feel it all over again.

In-Home, Outdoor, or a Mix of Both

I photograph families at home, outdoors, or a mix of both—though in-home sessions hold a special place for me. Home is where things tend to feel most natural, especially for little ones, and some of my favorite images have come from the most lived-in, real-life spaces. Don’t worry about tidying every corner. A magazine-perfect home isn’t the goal—real and lived-in is.

For outdoor sessions, we’ll find a location that feels right for your family—whether that’s a favorite East Bay park, a neighborhood spot in Oakland or Berkeley, or somewhere along the San Francisco waterfront. I love incorporating movement: running, games, snuggles, or simple activities like blowing bubbles or walking hand-in-hand. I always recommend prioritizing the right time of day over the “perfect” location, especially with young kids who tend to do best in the morning.

A Gentle, Responsive Approach

Throughout the session I’ll offer gentle direction, but mostly I want you focused on each other—not the camera. We’ll talk beforehand about what your family loves to do, and I’ll draw from that during our time together. Every child is different. Some need a few minutes to warm up; others are ready to go from the start. I follow each child’s lead and bring just enough structure to help everyone settle in.y.

My Background in Early Childhood Education

Before photography, I spent over 15 years as an early childhood special educator. That experience in play- and relationship-based approaches still shapes how I work today. It’s why I honor each child’s pace, create space for them to feel comfortable, and bring patience and empathy into every session.

As a mom of two, I know how quickly the early years pass, and how valuable it is to have honest, heartfelt images to look back on.

A Recent Session Example

Before one recent session, a mom mentioned her toddler was slow to warm up with new people. I sent a few photos of myself ahead of time—along with some of her daughter’s favorite things—so she’d have a sense of who I was before we even met. On the day of the session, I brought a small something we could connect over, and she was right there with us within minutes.

Every child comes with their own pace and personality. That’s not a hurdle—it’s simply part of the process.

What Happens After You Book

I want you to feel prepared and supported every step of the way. After booking, you’ll receive a session guide that walks you through what to expect and how to prepare. As we get closer, you’ll complete a detailed questionnaire, and for in-home sessions you’ll also send a few photos of your space so I can plan ahead.

We’ll then schedule a pre-session call to talk through everything—what to wear, how to prepare your kids, the moments you want to remember, and how I approach different situations. After our call, I’ll send a personalized session plan—so you go into the day feeling prepared, not stressed.

Yes to Pets and Extended Family

Pets, grandparents, and extended family are always welcome to join your Bay Area family session. Pets can sometimes be tricky in outdoor settings, but when it feels right, they’re a wonderful part of the story. Grandparents bring a special presence, too, and it’s always meaningful to capture those relationships.

After the Session

Within a few days, you’ll receive a sneak peek so you can revisit some of the moments while your full gallery is being finalized. Your complete gallery is delivered within 4 weeks, filled with both color and black-and-white images.

You’ll also have access to print bundles to make it easy to enjoy your photos in your home—not just on a screen.

What Families Say

One parent shared this after her session, and it’s stayed with me:
“I didn’t realize how much these photos would make me feel.”

That’s exactly what I’m after.
