Some sessions have a clear through-line. This one had a bouncy house, sidewalk chalk, a navy costume, a puzzle, and a walk to the beach — and it all made sense.
This family of four lives near Ocean Beach, and their home had the easy, well-worn feeling of a place where kids actually live. Their boys’ close friends joined us for part of the session, which added to the energy in the best way. There were moments that were loud and silly and a little chaotic, and moments that were quiet — a mom pulling her son close, a kid concentrating hard on a puzzle piece.
The older boy was fascinated by the navy. He put on his costume and was completely in it. Those are the details worth documenting — not because they’re cute (though they were), but because they’re specific. In ten years, his parents will remember exactly who he was at this age.
We ended with a walk through the neighborhood toward the water. The light was good, and by then everyone had relaxed into it.
