Get In Touch

Most photos taken on phones never make it out of the camera roll. They sit in cloud storage, buried under thousands of other images and rarely seen again.

As a Bay Area newborn and family photographer, I think about this a lot. Printing changes the relationship you have with your photos — they become part of your home rather than part of a backup folder.

Here are eight reasons it’s worth doing.

1. Printed Photos Are Actually There

A print on your wall or a photo in an album gets seen every day. It’s part of your home in a way that a digital file sitting on a hard drive isn’t. That’s the difference.

2. They Look Better

A professionally printed photo renders color, detail, and depth in a way that a phone screen can’t. If you’ve invested in a session, the prints are where that investment shows up.

3. Albums Are Worth Having

I have fond memories of looking through family albums as a child, and my own kids do the same now. There’s something about flipping through physical pages that a slideshow doesn’t replicate — the pausing, the pointing, the stories that come up.

4. Photos on Walls Matter

Framed family photos change the feel of a room. They’re not just decoration — they’re a daily reminder of who your family is and what matters. Kids notice them more than you might think.

5. There’s Research Behind This

Studies have shown that children who grow up seeing themselves in family photos displayed at home tend to have stronger self-esteem and a clearer sense of belonging. It’s one of those small things that turns out not to be small at all.

6. They Bring People Together

In my own home, I keep photo boxes for each of my kids — prints from throughout their childhood that they can look through whenever they want. They come back to them regularly. That kind of engagement doesn’t happen with a shared digital album.

7. Digital Files Don’t Last Forever

Technology changes. Storage formats become obsolete. Hard drives fail. A well-made print outlasts all of it. Photos from generations ago survived because they were printed — not because someone had good cloud backup habits.

8. It Closes the Loop

You took the time to document your family. Printing is what completes that — moving the photos out of a folder and into your actual life.
