The first couple of days after your baby arrives can feel like a blur. You’re adjusting, meeting your baby, and figuring things out in real time — often without much sleep.
A Fresh 48 session is a way to document that time as it actually is. Nothing staged, no need to prepare — just what’s happening in your hospital room before you head home.
Below are answers to the questions I’m asked most often.
What is Fresh 48 Newborn Photography?
Fresh 48 photography documents your baby within the first 48-72 hours after birth, usually in your hospital room.
These sessions focus on what’s actually happening — holding your baby, feeding, settling in, and getting used to being together as a family.
How Do Fresh 48 Sessions Work?
Once your baby arrives, you’ll reach out, and we’ll find a time that works before you’re discharged.
I’ll come to your hospital room and use the available light to document your time together. I may adjust where you’re sitting or standing for better light, but I’m not traditionally directing the session. My goal is to also make sure everyone is comfortable.

When Are Hospital Newborn Photos Typically Taken?
Fresh 48 photography documents your baby within the first 48-72 hours after birth, usually in your hospital room.
These sessions focus on what’s actually happening — holding your baby, feeding, settling in, and getting used to being together as a family.
How Should We Dress Our Baby for the Photos?
Simple works best — a swaddle or a onesie is enough.
The focus is on your baby and your interactions, not the outfit.
Can We Include Siblings or Family Members in the Photos?
Yes — siblings and close family members are always welcome.
If you have older kids, I usually recommend having them come toward the end of the session. That way, we can focus on them when they arrive, rather than asking them to wait while we photograph the baby.
Is It Safe for Our Baby to be Photographed So Soon After Birth?
Yes. Your baby’s comfort guides everything I do.
I’ve spent years working with newborns, and I follow their cues throughout the session — pausing for feeding, settling, or anything else they need.
What If We’re Not Ready for Photos After Our Baby Arrives?
That’s completely understandable.
If a hospital session doesn’t feel right, we can switch to an in-home newborn session once you’re home and have had a little time to settle in.
How Long Does a Fresh 48 Session Last?
Sessions typically last around 90 minutes.
There’s no strict timeline — we move at your baby’s pace, with plenty of space for feeding, diaper changes, and breaks.
What Are the Costs for Hospital Newborn Photos?
You can find detailed pricing on my newborn and Fresh 48 session page.
When Will We Receive the Final Photos?
Your full gallery is delivered within 4 weeks, and I send a few sneak peeks sooner.
What If Our Baby Is Fussy During the Session?
Newborns don’t follow a schedule, and that’s built into how these sessions work.
If your baby needs to be held, fed, or soothed, we pause and let that happen. Those moments are often the ones families come back to.
